This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
The full time contracted hours are 36 hours per week, excluding breaks. The Met is a 24 hour service. Accordingly, police community support officers (PCSOs) are generally required to work a shift pattern that includes a combination of morning, daytime, and evening shifts. No night shifts are required. The shift patterns vary from location to location depending on the operational needs of that area. The latest you will finish is 12am midnight.
When it comes to agreeing any individual flexible working requests, priority is given to operational and business needs. You will be able to submit flexible working requests once you start your role. We recognise the importance of a work-life balance. We'll always try to take your individual, religious and cultural needs into account so you can fit your work around your personal commitments. As an emergency service with a 24 hours a day, seven days a week responsibility to the people of London, this may not always be possible.
While you will ultimately be posted wherever you’re most needed, your location preferences will be taken into account when considering where to place you.
There are currently vacancies across all boroughs. During the recruitment process, you will be asked some preference information around where you’d like to be posted to help inform our decision making. We cannot guarantee that we can accommodate your first preferences, as operational requirements will inform where we need to post new PCSOs. However, we will endeavour to work with your preference where possible.
