The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 established a Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for each police force area across England and Wales.
The Mayor of London (currently Sadiq Khan) heads the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and acts in a similar way to the Police and Crime Commissioners elsewhere in England. In this role, the Mayor must draft, consult on and issue a Police and Crime Plan within the financial year in which they are elected.
The plan sets out the Mayor’s priorities and objectives for 2022-2025, including:
The MPS business plan and activities will reflect the strategic policing objectives contained in the Police and Crime Plan.
In March 2022, following consultation with nearly 4,000 Londoners, victims of crime, agencies, community groups and businesses, the Mayor of London published his plan for policing London and keeping Londoners safe during his Mayoral term.
