The Met’s Police Museum holds an important collection of photographs, archives, books, equipment, uniforms and other artefacts, some of which date from the start of the service in 1829. We make this accessible by curated displays, talks and a research room. The research room houses the joint reference library of the Police Museum and Crime Museum, which is publicly accessible.
Visits to both the gallery and research room are by appointment only and photo ID is required. To book an appointment, please contact the Police Museum.
If you are unable to visit us, some of our photographs can also be accessed via the Mary Evans Picture Library . MPS archives are also held in the MEPO and HO record sets at the National Archives, some of which have been converted to PDFs.
We can supply images of officers’ attestation signatures from 1958 to 2013 by email on provision of a warrant number.
