Crimes and priorities

  • Our priorities
  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

Robbery - focus on Rye Lane and surrounding areas on the ward where robberies and phone snatches have been reported.

    Issued 15 June 2026

    Action taken:

High visibility and undercover patrols have been increased on Rye Lane and we work closely with specialist units to identify perpetrators and take requisite action. Recent operations have seen a reduction in offences. These proactive operations are ongoing, in the interim we are working with partner agencies namely Trading standards and Home Office immigration officers to target shops selling stolen handsets. Achilles heel tactics are utilised to disrupt the business models and modus operandi of the OCN's.
We have executed multiple recent warrants on Rye Lane and continue to develop investigations tackling the suspects committing robberies and the individuals and premises handling the stolen goods.

    Actioned 19 September 2026

  • Priority:

    Reduce drug dealing
Drug dealing - taking action on reports of drug dealing across the ward and also proactively tackling the issue. This includes proactive use of stop and search and develop intelligence working towards drugs warrants and enforcement options. We identify drug dealers and take enforcement action to take out the supply chain seeking charge and remand for drug dealers and the users. We then investigate up and down the drug line and arrest those involved.

    Issued 15 June 2026

    Action taken:

Rye Lane is a priority ward and has seen an uplift of police officers present on the streets. Officers work with community partner organisations to engage with and identifying habitual drug users and guide them towards supporting services, alongside investigating the supply of drugs and enforcement action. An aim of this is a reduction in thefts, begging and anti-social behaviour. We have recently arrested charged and remanded three of the main drug dealers operating in the area and they are currently on court bail pending upcoming crown court trial for PWITS, concerned in supply class A drugs and Proceeds' of crime offences. We seize criminal assets and seek behaviour orders for persistent offenders, working with partners to remove social housing from subjects committing offences within their communities. In the last three weeks two crack houses have been closed down

    Actioned 19 September 2026

  • Priority:

Anti-social behaviour (ASB) - reduce all forms of ASB, including graffiti, aggressive begging, drug taking, street drinking, littering and prostitution..

    Issued 15 June 2026

    Action taken:

Patrols have increased across the ward and officers work in partnership with Southwark Council to tackle the issues. Engagement with local residents and business owners is ongoing. The team continue to develop proactive operations that specifically target the causes of ASB.

    Actioned 19 September 2026

  • Priority:

Targeting prolific shoplifters operating in and around Rye Lane.

    Issued 15 June 2026

    Action taken:

A three month operation targeting shoplifting nominals, utilising covert and overt tactics. Prosecuting and issuing CBO'S, and CPN for suspects and grouping investigations to maximise charge and remand opportunities at crown court.

    Actioned 19 September 2026
