Southbury Ward Priority 3: Shoplifting was highlighted at the ward panel meeting for the Co - Op Leighton road. This is a priority crime for Southbury ward as it is linked to other crime types like drugs and failing to appear.

Plans were made and a plain clothes operation was conducted. One male, prolific shoplifter arrested.
This operation will continue.
Update - two more prolific shoplifters have been arrested as part of ongoing work with the Co-Op to try and reduced shoplifting.
Update - 10/04/2026 - another prolific shoplifter was arrested and officers are working with the courts to try and impose a Criminal Behaviour Order.
**Update** 4 prolific shoplifters have been arrested and charged with numerous theft offences from this store. This has seen a 92% reduction in shoplifting within the store. For reference August 51 offences, September 31 offences, October 2 offences. This will remain a priority for Southbury SNT who will continue to support this store and deal with offenders. The ward are now utilising the Criminal Behaviour Orders - which are applied for at the courts and are designed to stop persons continuing their behaviours. Breaches can lead to further punishments. This work demonstrates the wards commitment to dealing with this prolific crime.
Numerous arrests have now been made involving various well known offenders. The use of Community Behaviour Orders are now being brought into effect to improve chances of conviction at court.
Officers are now actively looking for named suspect who has filled the void following the prosecution of other shoplifters. The team continue to work hard evidence gathering and building a solid case against the suspect so that upon arrest swift justice can be sought.
Engagement with the store continues. The CLEAR aspect has occurred Southbury SNT are now in the HOLD phase of working maintaining the excellent results we have had.

Southbury Ward Priority 1: ASB - Noise and anti social behaviour Donkey Lane and Enfield Playing Fields. Southbury ward are aware of increased ASB in the car park of Donkey Lane and also recent thefts in the playing fields. PMP Reference - PMP/14602/26
