Dedicated Ward Officer
E bike / Scooter enforcement for pedestrian safety
Issued 05 July 2026
Op Veyvah was developed and pioneered by Fairfield SNT targeting the use of E-Scooters and E-bikes following complaints from residents and the ward panel. It has run on several dates and involves fixed and mobile enforcement of traffic legislation to seize these vehicles where their use is illegal.
The aim is to improve pedestrian safety and ensure vehicles are used in a responsible way with education.
E bikes are legal if limited to 15.5 mph and pedal assisted to reach this speed. E scooters are only legal if used on private land as they cannot be insured unless hired through a scheme which is not local to Croydon.
The team have seized many of these vehicles and will continue enforcement and improving awareness of the current legal situation.
We have worked with HM Immigration to speak to food delivery workers and target the use of illegal bike and working without a visa.
The government is currently reviewing and bringing forward legislation around the use of these vehicles.
