The Underwater and Confined Space Search Team (UCSST), better known as the Met’s Dive Team, are all part of the Marine Policing Unit (MPU), but specialise as police divers.
The unit was established back in 1967 when they were the country’s first underwater search team.
All UCSST officers are commercially endorsed divers and licensed search officers. They are trained to operate in confined spaces and hazardous environments. To qualify for the role, officers need to pass the annual Health and Safety Executive (HSE) medical and diving aptitude test, and a number of other courses including advanced first aid. They are also required to gain a boat master license.
