Rejoin the Met as an officer
Are you looking to resume your career in Policing? Applications are now open for previous experienced police officers who have left their role as an officer and would like to return to a career in policing by joining the Metropolitan Police Service.
To be eligible to apply, applicants must have left a Home Office force within the last five years and, passed their probationary period before having left.
You do not need to move to within Greater London in order to join us.
The opportunity

The Met’s Rejoiners' pathway is designed to support ex-officers, with valuable skills and experience, who have resigned from service within the last five years and wish to return to policing.

Our selection process
Our selection process is simple – you're already an experienced officer and that speaks volumes.
Once you have submitted your application form, we will review this to understand your expertise and experience.
If you previously worked as a specialist (or you were in a specialist command) please ensure you tell us in your application, as there is the potential to work within the same or a similar role. If not, we have a range of generalist positions available across London.
As part of this, we'll check you meet our eligibility criteria. If you met your day-to-day requirements in your previous role as an officer and were successful in completing your two year probationary period, you'll likely have no issues here.
We’ll then ask you to join us for an interview based on the Competencies and Values Framework and the Met’s values.
We'll quickly guide you through our pre-employment process including fitness, medical, DNA/fingerprints and vetting.
If you rejoin the Met at the same rank as when you resigned, we will ensure you rejoin us at the same pay point as when you left.
How you'll be trained
We arrange an induction for you, so you can get to know the Met a little more if you were previously with another force, or refamiliarise yourself if you were previously with the Met.
We’ll also arrange any relevant training courses for you to help you settle into your new position. You will likely notice a change in pace and demand through your training, but you will be able to call upon your own experience and the support of others around you through this period. There will be highly experienced and skilled officers around you who will always be there to help or assist.
Beyond your initial training, we aim to support the continuous professional development of our officers.
