Life as a Met chief superintendent

Our ambition is to be the most trusted police service in the world. As a chief superintendent, you will need to provide strong leadership in a time of unprecedented change within the UK’s largest police service.

This is a role where you have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering the reform we have promised London - delivering a New Met for London. That will take commitment, passion and determination.

We are seeking officers with a strong track record in operational delivery. You will work with Londoners to tackle crime and make neighbourhoods safer – together, helping to build the strongest neighbourhood policing London has ever seen. You will deliver policing that truly puts the public first.

Relationship building will be one of your strengths – externally with a range of local, London-wide and national partners and stakeholders, and internally with your colleagues. You will work to set your people up to succeed and create an environment where our frontline has what it needs to do this difficult job for London – and do it well.

Who are we looking for?

This exciting career opportunity is open to superintendents and detective superintendents looking for promotion, and external chief superintendents and detective chief superintendents, with a proven track record of effective delivery are also encouraged to apply.

To be eligible to apply for this process, external candidates must:

• Be a current substantive superintendent/detective superintendent or substantive chief superintendent /detective chief superintendent.
• Hold a current PDR/end of year review with a testimonial from your line manager regarding suitability, capability, and readiness to perform effectively at chief superintendent rank.
• Meet the Met’s attendance management criteria.
• Not currently subject to a live final written warning, a live written warning or had a reduction in rank imposed within the last 2 years.
• Be working in a Home Office force or if you are currently serving in a Non-Home Office Force then you must have worked in a Home Office Force within the last 5 years and passed your probation within a Home Office Force.
