Here at the Met, we spend more than £850 million each year on a diverse range of goods and services, from ammunition and complex IT service contracts, to response vehicles and stationery. Managing that expenditure well means making it go further and with better outcomes, underpinning the delivery of our service to London and beyond.
The Met Commercial function is in the middle of a large scale transformation, working to deliver the following strategic aims:
Our commercial activity covers procurement where we buy goods and services as effectively as possible. We also manage the commercial relationships with all outsourced suppliers, working in partnership and through modern contract management practices. Additionally, we maximise revenue from third parties and generate income by leveraging our intellectual property and optimising the commerciality of our assets. We collect data and analyse our spend, as well as trends in all our markets. This ensures we make best use of our scarce and valuable resources.
