Officer concerned: PC Mason O’Connor
Date of hearing: 15 September 2026
This matter concerns conduct reported following the broadcast of the BBC Panorama programme on 1 October 2025. The programme included video footage obtained covertly by an undercover BBC journalist who had been employed in the capacity of a Designated Detention Officer within the Charing Cross Police Station custody suite. Subsequent examination of additional information has identified further matters, which have been brought to the attention of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS).
PC Mason O'Connor answered the allegation that on 9 October 2024. Whilst PC O'Connor was off duty whilst off duty and socialising with colleagues at the Lemon Tree Public House, located behind Charing Cross Police Station, PC O’Connor said to a female colleague, in the presence and hearing of two male colleagues, “I hope you get raped on your way to Waterloo”, or words to that effect. PC O’Connor’s comment shocked his colleagues and caused genuine upset to the female officer concerned.
The Officer was legally represented and present at proceedings.
The Chair of the proceedings, Commander Colin Wingrove, determined that the allegations were proven at the level of Gross Misconduct and that the Standards of Professional Behaviour had been breached, namely in respect of Authority, Respect and Courtesy, Equality and Diversity, and Discreditable Conduct.
PC O'Connor was dismissed without notice.
PC O'Connor will now be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing.
