Officer concerned: PC Alessia Versino
Date of hearing: 15 to 18 September 2026
PC Alessia Versino, based at MO7, answered the allegations that she made a sworn statement which created a clear impression that she had conducted an in-person examination of a dog when she had not. As a result of her false statement, the owner of the assessed dog was charged with an offence.
It was alleged that her conduct amounted to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour, in respect of:
PC Versino was present at the hearing and was legally represented.
The panel, chaired by former Commander Katie Lilburn, did not find it proven that PC Versino wilfully intended to produce a misleading or untruthful statement, but they found it proven that her conduct amounted to a failure in her duty as an expert witness. The misleading content of the statement, though accidental, undermined the accuracy and reliability required of expert evidence and created a risk, albeit limited, of compromising her credibility in future investigations.
The panel found that PC Versino had breached the Standards of Professional behaviour in relation to 'Discreditable Conduct' and the 'Integrity' limb of 'Honesty & Integrity' only. These breaches amounted to Misconduct.
PC Versino was issued with a Final Written Warning for a period of five years.
