Officer concerned: PC James Barrett
Dates of hearing: 18 May 2026
PC James Barrett answered the following Allegations:
1. On more than one occasion he made false declarations to his part time third party employer regarding compliance with statutory rest requirements and fitness to drive.
2. It is further alleged that PC Barrett failed to comply with his legal obligations under EU Regulation 561/2006 and the Transport Act 1968, and breached MPS policies on secondary employment and safe working practices.
3. On 31 December 2025 PC Barrett pleaded Guilty to a number of offences contrary to Section 96 (11A) of the Transport Act 1968 before the Westminster Magistrates Court.
The Chair, Commander Andy Brittain, found Allegation 1 Partially Proved, Allegation 2 Partially Proved, and Allegation 3 Proved, on the balance of probabilities.
Furthermore, the Chair found that PC Barrett had breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Discreditable Conduct and Integrity, and that these breaches amounted to Gross Misconduct.
Dismissed Without Notice.
