Summary

The circumstances of this case were that PC Varela-Garcia was alleged to have posted, liked, and shared social media content of a discriminatory nature, including material considered misogynistic and transphobic. He had also posted photographs of himself in police uniform, thereby identifying himself as a serving police officer.

It was alleged that, through this conduct, PC Varela-Garcia breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in relation to:

* Discreditable Conduct

* Equality and Diversity

* Orders and Instructions

PC Varela-Garcia attended the proceedings and was represented throughout the hearing.

Decision

Following consideration of the evidence, the Chair, Commander Brittain, found the allegations proven and determined that PC Varela-Garcia had breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour at the level of Gross Misconduct.

As a result, PC Varela-Garcia was dismissed without notice and will be placed on the College of Policing Barred List.
