Officer concerned: PS Paul Barrett
Dates of hearing: 2 April 2026
PS Barrett answered the following Allegations:
* On 1 March 2026, PS Barrett was removed from duty on the basis of a reasonable suspicion that he had consumed alcohol while on duty or prior to commencing his shift. An evidential breath test subsequently recorded readings above the prescribed legal limit.
* On 16 March 2026, PS Barrett pleaded guilty to the offence of driving a motor vehicle with excess alcohol, contrary to section 5(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 Westminster Magistrates' Court.
PS Barrett was not present during the proceedings but was represented by his Federation Representative.
The Chair, Commander Jason Prins, found all Allegations proven on the balance of probabilities. Furthermore, the Chair found that PS Barrett had breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Discreditable Conduct and Fitness for Duty ,and that these breaches amounted to Gross Misconduct.
PS Barrett was Dismissed Without Notice.
