On 29 March 2025 whilst a serving police officer, Former Trainee Detective Constable Ajitpal Lotay made a telephone call to a specialty coffee store regarding a failed coffee delivery and the purchase of coffee products. During the call, Former TDC Lotay falsely claimed to be a doctor and managing partner of a medical surgery in an apparent attempt to influence specialty coffee stores handling of the complaint. During the same interaction, he made comments suggesting they would "burn that shop down" and that there would be "problems" if restrictions were placed on the quantity of coffee they could purchase.
On 31 March 2025, after being refused service at a specialty coffee store, Former TDC Lotay falsely claimed that their earlier conduct was attributable to Tourette's syndrome and alleged disability discrimination by the specialty coffee store. It is alleged that you threatened the specialty coffee store with adverse publicity because they had discriminated against you because of this purported disability.
Between 21 August 2025 and 7 October 2025, you failed to comply with reasonable requests to attend a voluntary interview and acted in an obstructive and discourteous manner towards investigating officers.
Former TDC Lotay of South East Command Unit will answer allegations that his conduct amounts to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of:
In acting in the way alleged, Former TDC Lotay breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour and this conduct, if proven, would amount to gross misconduct in that it is so serious that, had the officer still been serving, they would have been dismissed.
The identity of victims and witnesses will be protected during the hearing as appropriate.
