Vehicles used by MO8

I note you seek access to the following information:

1. Are there any plans for the MO8 units to receive any vehicles other than new Volvo V90. (This means the purchase of new vehicles for Traffic Car patrols)
2. Apparently the Volvo V90's in the MPS MO8 fleet have so many safety features it is hard to perform TPACs. Can this be confirmed.
3. Are there any plans for the MPS to implement vehicles made by VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) into the force just like other neighbouring forces do.
4. What vehicles are currently used as Traffic Cars in MO8. Can they be listed by make, model and how many of each model there are in service.
5. Due to incidents involving BMWs in the police forces around the country, will the Metropolitan Police Service purchase any more of such vehicles.

Decision

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full. Please find below information pursuant to your request above.

Q1 - Are there any plans for the MO8 units to receive any vehicles other than new Volvo V90 (This means the purchase of new vehicles for Traffic Car patrols).

Q3 - Are there any plans for the MPS to implement vehicles made by VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) into the force just like other neighbouring forces do.

Q5 - Due to incidents involving BMWs in the police forces around the country, will the Metropolitan Police Service purchase any more of such vehicles.

Vehicles are purchased via a commercial tendering process using an operational vehicle specification published via compliant routes to the market. The MPS will be running its next tendering process for this role in 2025.

Q2 - Apparently the Volvo V90's in the MPS MO8 fleet have so many safety features it is hard to perform TPACs. Can this be confirmed.

All vehicles produced after July 2022 are mandated under the General Safety Regulation to have Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Whilst these are designed to improve road safety and avoid collisions, National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) driver training leads have evaluated police tactics including TPAC and confirmed that they can be performed in the Volvo V90 product.

Q4 - What vehicles are currently used as Traffic Cars in MO8. Can they be listed by make, model and how many of each model there are in service.
