Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.24.041838
I note you seek access to the following information:
The TFL dashboard shows the Met enforcing 735,148 speeding offences in 2023 and 363,034 in the first 5 months of 2024. (Please correct these numbers if they are inaccurate.
For each period, please provide the number that were prosecuted by fixed penalty notices and the number that were prosecuted through the court (including the number prosecuted through the SIngle Justice Procedure).
For each period, please also provide the number of offences where a speed awareness course was taken instead of a penalty. Please also provide the 'costs' which the Metropolitan Police received from the fees for Speed Awareness Courses in each period.
Clarification -
Thanks for your prompt reply and clarifying questions, which I hope to answer.
The source of the data is TfL, as illustrated below.
The data and request refer to both camera offences and TORs issued, as illustrated in the screenshot above.
I add to my request, that for the two periods in question, if the above offences exclude those where Speed awareness course were offered, please additionally provide the number of offences where speed awareness courses were offered.
I am sure you can see the gist of the request - for each period, I would like to know how many people were stopped and given a TOR or sent a ticket for speeding, the number who accepted speed awareness courses, the number prosecuted by fixed penalty and the number prosecuted by the court (including specifically the SIngle Justice Procedure).
In the case of speed awareness courses, I would like to know the 'costs' paid to the MPS by those accepting the course.

For the prosecution, all speed offences are progressed under the Single Justice Procedure Notice. Defendants have the option to elect an open hearing if pleading guilty or if a Not Guilty plea is entered the case is listed at Magistrates Court and prosecuted by the CPS.
The cost recovery is £45 but the Met does not receive any monies re NSAC (National Speed Awareness Course); this is recovered by TfL.
