Q1 - To date. how many people have had a vetting status reviewed and how many had their vetting removed or retained?
Total Completed Reviews – 139 - 86 Vetting Withdrawn and 53 Vetting Maintained. A further 2 left the MPS before a decision was made.
Q1a - To date, how many people have retained their vetting status but with a risk mitigation strategy put in place?
This is an ongoing process and risk management measures are being reviewed.
Q2 - To date, Of those who have had their vetting status removed how many appealed against the vetting decision?
65 appeals received.
Q3 - To date, how many people have been either successful or unsuccessful in their vetting appeal?
Appeal upheld (successful) – 4, Appeal Dismissed (unsuccessful) 38, 15 did not appeal, 22 ongoing.
Q4 - How many who were successful in their vetting appeal have returned to full duty?
All those that have successfully appealed their vetting are still employed.
Q5 - How many who were unsuccessful in their vetting appeal have now progressed to stage 3 and are currently awaiting a hearing for gross incompetence due to their loss of RV vetting clearance?
19 are currently awaiting a gross incompetence meeting.
Q6 - Is there currently a backlog of people waiting for a gross incompetency hearing?
10 cases awaiting gross incompetence meeting dates.
Q6 - How many have been dismissed from the MPS for gross incompetence as a result of the Operation Assure process?
7 (plus 9 left the MPS prior to a gross incompetence meeting).
Q7 - If any have been dismissed as per question 6 then how many are taking legal action against the MPS for their dismissal?
From the 7 dismissed, 1 pending a Judicial Review and one staff member has put in an ET (Employment Tribunal).
Q8 - How many people referred to the Op Assure process were officers who have a characteristic that means that they are disabled or on adjusted duties?
There are 42 people who have been referred into Op Assure that are shown as being on adjusted duties. This only relates to current employees (and not those who’ve resigned, retired or have been exited from the organisation).
Q9 - Has the judicial review submitted by the MPS Federation affected the Operation Assure timescales?
No.
Q10 - Is the MPS waiting for further legislative changes to be made around the vetting of police officers to come into force before it progresses to further gross incompetency hearings?
No.
