Clarification -
All arrests that occurred outside Downing Street and in the Whitehall Area only during the Public Order incident on the 31 July. during the unrest and protesters
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
You have requested the number of arrests made during the Public Order incident on the 31 July. The information on the number of these arrests made during the unrest are as follows:
In total, 111 arrests were made in relation to the protests and disorder in Whitehall on the 31 July. Please note, these arrests were not all necessarily made in or outside Downing Street and the surrounding Whitehall area - they were only flagged as being made in relation to the disorder in that area on the 31 July.
These arrests have been broken down as follows: -
| Number of Arrests | Reason for Arrest |
|---|---|
| 1 | Possession of offensive weapons |
| 27 | Failing to comply with conditions applied to the protest - Section 14 Public Order Act 1986. |
| 16 | Violent disorder - one of which was also wanted for Burglary, and another was also arrested for failing to comply with conditions. |
| 2 | Assault on Emergency worker – one of which was also arrested for failing to comply with conditions imposed. |
| 2 | Racially/Religiously aggravated causing fear of violence |
| 1 | Unlawful possession of Class A drugs |
| 2 | Breach of dispersal order |
A further 60 individuals were arrested during the protest for failing to comply with conditions on the protest under Section 14 Public Order Act 1986. They were not taken into custody but remain under investigation.
Again, it is to be noted that although 111 arrests were made relating to public order on the day in question it does not mean they were dealt with under this offence, and they could have been dealt with under another.
It is also to be noted that these arrests may or may not relate directly to any protests at this location and may have been other public order related offences.
In relation to the requested breakdown of those arrested being from London or outside of London, the MPS are still in the process of compiling the address details for the 111 individuals arrested.
The MPS can confirm that thus far 48 individuals’ residential addresses have been determined and can be broken down as follows:
