I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full. Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
Q1 - I am wondering if there is a document outlining the medical Training available to the different divisions within your force such as Firearms, TSG, ERPT etc.
Emergency Life Saving (ELS) runs on a 3 year rolling cycle of content (cycle A, B, C). Core content remains the same – additional medical conditions are spread out over the course of the 3 years, for example cycle A additional topics might be choking, stroke, anaphylaxis. Cycle B spinal injuries might be head injuries, seizures. Cycle C might be diabetes, heart conditions.
Each cycle runs from 1 April – 31 March each year. The matrix is renewed each year to show the additional topics covered.
Below is a list of all the ELS courses currently being delivered:
ELS - 2 day initial recruit course for officers and staff.
ELS - 1 day refresher for police staff.
ELS (new April 2024) - Officer 1 day refresher (Officer – Chief inspector. Includes MO7 (minus MPU) and some MO3/SO15 (non-firearms roles))
3 day initial FAAW course (Currently open to anyone. Mandatory for first aid instructors to complete)
2 day FAAW re-qualification (Currently open to anyone. Mandatory for first aid instructors to complete)
ELS - 2 day enhanced first aid initial (Make Safe SOCOs/SO15)
ELS – 1 day enhanced first aid refresher (Make Safe SOCOs/ SO15)
ELS – 2 day enhanced initial training for Marine policing (MO7 MPU)
ELS – 1 day enhanced refresher for Marine policing (MO7 MPU)
ELS – Custody for DDOs (as of April 24 now also includes Custody Sgts and Inspectors)
Ballistic first aid – 2 day - enhanced first aid for firearms OCUs.
Ballistic first aid refresher – enhanced first aid for firearms OCUs.
Firearms medic (5 day course – includes FAAW as part of the course) – This is a voluntary course.
PPST - 3 hours ELS combined with 2 hours PPST – For Superintendents and above
PPST - (retired as of April 24) – 3 day course for those out of date over 12 months – 1 day ELS, and 2 days PPST.
PPST - 5 day catch up course for anyone out of date with ELS and PPST over 5 years. 1 day of ELS. However, officers would still need to have completed basic ELS course to be back in date.
