INFORMATION
In September 2023 as part of our New Met for London Plan, the Met appointed a Chief Officer strategic lead for Business and Retail Harm and formed the first London Retail Harm Reduction Partnership.
A new dedicated Retail Harm Strategy has also been created in collaboration with retailers, Business Improvement Districts, the National Business Crime Centre and MOPAC, and the processes for reporting retail harm/shop theft have been streamlined.
In addition, the Met was the first force nationally to trial facial recognition technology on high-frequency and high-harm offenders, and this and other initiatives will continue to be used on this crime type. Whilst it is too early to judge the impact of these positive steps, already the green shoots of improved outcomes are being seen and it is hoped that the new collaborative and focused approach will deliver improvements in the 2024/2025 year.
