I am looking to conduct a research project on the use and effectiveness of Domestic Homicide Reviews in cases of suspected victim suicide following domestic abuse in England and Wales.
I would like to request your force’s data on domestic homicide from 2020 onwards, how many of these have been cases of suspected victim suicide, and how many of these cases have been referred for a Domestic Homicide Review by your force.
If possible, could you also please specify under what offence you record cases of domestic homicide, under what offence you record cases of suspected victim suicide following domestic abuse, and any changes to these recording practices in the last 5 years.

I would like to request your force’s data on domestic homicide from 2020 onwards, how many of these have been cases of suspected victim suicide
All homicides are recorded as homicides. All other unexpected deaths are recorded as unexpected deaths. This includes apparent suicides.
The MPS can consider a request for domestic homicide figures for the period requested. Figures can be collated in a similar format to those published by the MPS below.

Every domestic homicide is referred for a Domestic Homicide Review.
If possible, could you also please specify under what offence you record cases of domestic homicide.
The MPS record domestic homicides as homicide offences which are then flagged with a ‘domestic marker’ on the Met’s crime recording system.

All unexpected deaths are recorded as such. If other offences are identified such as Coercive and Controlling behaviour they are recorded separately and investigated.
