Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.24.035109
I note you seek access to the following information:
I wish to obtain information on the dates of the roll-out of body worn cameras across London Boroughs. For each borough for which the Metropolitan Police is responsible, I request the date on which the borough first received body worn cameras. If the roll-out was done at the station level - such that not all stations in a given borough received the cameras at the same time - I request this information at the station level.
This is of primary interest. If the records exist, I also request information on the number of cameras deployed to each borough/station on the initial roll-out date.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
In April 2016 the MPS undertook a Body Worn Video pilot. There were only 10 boroughs involved with approximately 300 cameras. The 10 boroughs involved were - Camden -Hillingdon –Ealing –Barnet -Lewisham –Croydon –Bexley Bromley –Havering –Brent.
It was a random controlled trial, with 2 of out of the 5 teams from those boroughs getting the cameras and the others were the control.
The full roll out of BWV cameras across the MPS started in September 2016. We cannot provide the data on a police station level, as it was done on a borough level, with a team rolling the cameras out simultaneously across all the stations on a borough over a 5 weeks period.
Please find below and a PDF which provides the number of BWV cameras and the “Go Live date” for each borough. The Go Live date was the date the roll out of cameras commenced on that borough or command, and each roll out took place over 5 weeks, to cover shift working, leave, courses etc.
