Q2 - In the calendar year 2023, what percentage of domestic abuse calls deployed body worn video?
78.6%
CONTEXT in relation to Question 2
There are a number of reasons why BWV may appear to have not been used during the reporting of Domestic Abuse:
• When a victim has made the police aware of an offence (perhaps via phone line or online) but when later contacted by police, does not wish to substantiate or cannot be contacted despite best efforts, a “skeleton” report will be created to record the limited details known, based on the initial submission. This means that there will not have been an opportunity to use BWV.
• A victim who attends a Police Station to make a report sometime after the incident – The officer or civilian staff who takes the initial report will not be equipped with BWV.
• A case will be counted as “BWV used” if there is a link to the footage within the crime report. If an officer fails to attach their BWV footage to the crime report it will appear, from a data perspective, that BWV was not used.
Despite the reasons above, there will be a small percentage of cases where BWV has not been used because the officer did not switch it on, or due to a technical problem.
Q3 - What percentage of officers have completed Operation Signa training to date?
36,380 individuals have undertaken Signa training, this represents 77% of the Met’s current total of Staff and officers (circa 38,000). Please note these numbers do not account for retiring officers or those who have left the organisation and have been trained.
Q4 - How many VAWG specialist organisations in London have a dedicated single point of contact (SPOC) in the Met?
We do not hold this information. The Met’s VAWG stakeholder links are led by a Central VAWG team which means there is a dedicated single point of contact for national and London based VAWG organisations. Borough Command Units will also have links with local community groups and VAWG stakeholders.
