Fines handed to motorists as a result of speed cameras from November 2022 to November 2023

 

I note you seek access to the following information:

 

1. Please could you provide how many fines were handed to motorists as a result of speed cameras between 1 November 2022 to 1 November 2023?

 

2. Please could you provide the total cost of these fines?

 

Clarification - 

‘By 'fine' I am referring to a fixed penalty carries a £100 fine and 3 penalty points’

Below are the number of Fixed Penalties that were issued between 1st November 2022 and 1st November 2023 as a result of speeding offences relating to safety camera activations and Traffic Offence Reports (TORS).  

 

Please note that the number of fixed penalties issued in the specified timeframe does not correlate to all of the speeding offences that occurred within that time frame, due to the time taken identifying the driver /rider of a vehicle.

Below are the total number of fixed penalties that were paid to the Conditional Offer Unit, HMCTS (His Majesty’s Court and Tribunal Service) between 1 November 2022 and 1 November 2023, where the penalty for the offence is £100 and 3 penalty points for a speeding offence.

 

Please note that the number of fixed penalties issued in the specified timeframe does not correlate to the same offences being paid within that time frame.  This is due to the fact that for automated camera offences the driver/rider is not issued a fixed penalty (where appropriate) until they have confirmed they were driving/riding at the time of the offence.  In addition to this when the fixed penalty has been issued, the driver rider then has 28 days to accept the offer.
