Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.24.035295
I note you seek access to the following information:
Over the last two calendar years in your police force area, how many speeding offences in the 20mph zones have received a fixed penalty notice for speeds recorded between 21mph and 30mph which resulted in
a) points on licence issued
b) fines issued?
I have today decided to provide some of the information requested below.
Please note that the Met does not hold the information requested in (a).
Q(a) - points on licence issued
Please note that the Met does not have responsibility for handling fines and endorsements/points on driving licences.
This is handled by His Majesty’s Court and Tribunal Service with the Conditional Offer Unit at South-End-on-Sea.
Q(b) - fines issued?
The total number of Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) and Camera – Notice of Intended Prosecutions (NIPs) issued for 20mph offences where the speed was between 21mph and up to and including 30mph for the dates requested are as follows:
Traffic Offence Reports (TORs)
2022 = 1040
2023 = 379
Camera –Notice of Intended Prosecutions (NIPs)
2022 = 198,476

Please note that the significant differences recorded in 2022/2023 in NIPs is due to the increase in Camera enforcement compared to TORs.
