Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.24.035642
I note you seek access to the following information:
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
A total number of officers awarded QPM / KPMs has been located and we have made the decision to disclose this to you.
Please be advised that these are not recorded as a percentage of our workforce by rank, however, we have provided a full headcount of officers in the MPS, broken down by rank, and the FTE (Full Time Equivalent), to allow for comparison.
The number of police officers in the MPS changes over time, the data used for the purposes of your request is the number as of 29 February 2024.
Q1 - What percentage of Federated Ranks (PC to CI) were awarded QPM / KPMs in last 5 yrs
Q2 - What percentage of Superintendent ranks were awarded QPM / KPMs in last 5 years
Q3 - What percentage of ranks above Chief Supt. (ACPO) were awarded QPM / KPMs in last 5 years
Please see document attached for information relevant to your questions above.
Page 1 of the attached document provides a breakdown of all QPM and KPMs awarded in the last 5 years broken down by rank.
It should be noted that the number of honours recipients does not necessarily reflect the number of honours submissions from the MPS.
Information on the Honours Committees and associated nomination processes can be found at Honours committees - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and Other awards - UK Honours System (cabinetoffice.gov.uk).
Please also note that the Metropolitan Police Service uses the standard British police ranks which can be indicated by shoulder badges/epaulettes. These go up to Chief Superintendent, but uniquely the MPS has five ranks above that level instead of the standard three. These five are Commander, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner.
The data provided takes account of the above and has been disclosed broken down as follows:
1. Federated Ranks (Police Constable to Chief Inspector).
2. Superintendent ranks.
3. Commander and above.
Page 2 of the document below provides a full headcount of officers in the MPS broken down by rank, and the FTE (Full Time Equivalent), to allow for comparison.
Please ensure that the data provided in the document attached is read in conjunction with the notes provided to ensure correct interpretation of the data provided.
