I note you seek access to the following information:
I would like to find out if a new driver who has held their licence for under two years is eligible for a speed awareness course?
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
The MPS is committed to improving road safety and reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on London’s roads. When a vehicle exceeds the speed limit, the registered owner / keeper will be sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution regarding an automated speed camera activation; a subsequent requirement for driver details may also be issued until police have confirmation from who was driving the vehicle at the time of the alleged offence.
Provided the response is received from the driver confirming they were driving / riding the vehicle within the timeframe for consideration of eligibility of a speed awareness course, a course may be offered. Speed awareness courses are offered at the sole discretion of police and may be offered to any driver (including drivers that have held their licence for less than 2 years) subject to eligibility criteria being satisfied. Further information about speed awareness courses can be found on the MPS website below.
