I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
Q1 - Does your force create body maps as a method of documenting a victim’s injuries?
No.
Q2 - If yes, is this done internally or externally?
External to the MPS, body maps are created by Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) and the Havens. The Havens help victims of crime that have been raped or sexually assaulted.
Q3 - If no, what other method is implemented?
External to the MPS, body maps are created by Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) and the Havens. The Havens help victims of crime that have been raped or sexually assaulted. These are also commissioned and used by Forensic Pathologists but these are not services provided or functions undertaken by the MPS.
Q4 - What type of case is this most prevalent in?
Violent and sexual offences.
Q5 - Are the mannequins/models used standardised, or edited to resemble the victim?
Standard templates drawings are used although for victims, progression of injury such as bruising can be presented in a timeline if requested. Mannequins are used within the Met’s Forensic Services, however these are used for the sole purpose of displaying clothing in casework for investigative purposes.
Q6 - Do you have a standard operating procedure in place, for this procedure?
No.
