Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.23.032082
I note you seek access to the following information:
Can you please provide all MPS polices and guidelines that outline how members of the MSC are promoted from special constable upwards?
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
The baseline standard for any officer seeking promotion is that they must hold Independent Patrol Status (IPS) and be free of any bar on selection due to outstanding discipline or performance matters. Other criteria will depend on the role requirements at the time of a promotion process. Promotion processes will take place as and when there are sufficient vacancies. Officers who are acting up or temporarily promoted must apply through an advertised process. All promotion processes will consist of an application form at the first stage.
Other stages of the process will depend on the role requirements at the time but may include interviews, assessment centres or other assessments. The exact structure will be defined in the process guidance.
If successful, your application will be referred to a posting panel who will post you based on the needs of the Met whilst taking your preferences and personal circumstances into account. You will then be required to attend any mandated training and complete any competency based tasks before you can be confirmed in rank.
