Thanks for your reply. I was unaware of some of the distinctions so thank you for clarifying.
In my original request, I was referring to any type of civil and tribunal claim irrespective of type, but these classifications are helpful.
Are you able to provide a final figure (or estimated figure) for each category please?
One for public and one for police workers (police workers means all civilian staff and constables)
1. Malfeasance Claims – Threatened or issued civil actions brought by members of the public, e.g. false imprisonment.
2. Employment Claims – Employment Tribunal or threatened and issued claims brought by police officers or staff, e.g. discrimination at work.
Insurance & Claims Services deal with the following claims brought against the Metropolitan Police.
3. C) Employers Liability Claims – Threatened or issued civil actions brought by police officers or staff, e.g. personal injury at work.
4. Public Liability Claims – Threatened or issued civil actions brought by members of the public. e.g. personal injury, damage to property, etc.
5. Road Traffic Claims – Threatened or issued civil actions brought by members of the public, e.g. road traffic accidents involving the police.

1. The number of successful lawsuits brought by the public against the Metropolitan police in the past 12 months. Successful means where the force has paid compensation regardless of admission of liability, out of court or as a result of court proceedings.
2. The final sum paid out in compensation to the public in 12 months.
3. The number of civil claims and tribunal claims brought by police employees against the Met. This includes personal injury, discrimination, harassment, unfair dismissal etc. Figures for the past 12 months, please.
4. The final sum paid out by the Met as a result of claims made by police employees in the past 12 months.
