Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.23.033030
I note you seek access to the following information:
The Met claimed that "Since April Just Stop Oil carried out 515 slow walk marches leading to 271 arrests taking up 23,500 police officer shifts and costing 7.7 million pounds."
I replied: "Can we see the exact calculations used to arrive at these figures please?
23,500 shifts for 515 protests would be 45 shifts per protest, which seems high, so I'd be interested to see how it was worked out. Please treat this as an FOI request."
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
The attached spreadsheet shows shifts/opportunity costs, between the dates of 21 April – 23 July 2023.
IMPORTANT:
• The information provided (7.7 million pounds) was the working estimate at the time and the final calculations are shown on the MPS publication scheme.
