Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.23.033547
I note you seek access to the following information:
I'm looking for the following information:
1. Confirmation of whether or not the Metropolitan Police are responsible for the Prime Minister's car travel, and if so, if a record of the PM's travel is retained.
2. If the Metropolitan Police are responsible, please provide the rationale behind the decision to keep the record of the Prime Minister's car travel or, if it isn't kept permanently, the rationale behind why it is discarded after a period of time. By car travel I mean all journeys the PM makes using Government owned vehicles.
If the Metropolitan Police aren't responsible for the PM's car travel, then can you please advise which body is. The Cabinet Office already claim they do not hold the information about the PM's car travel.
Clarification: I appreciate why a record of the travel might not be published given safety concerns. I am not requesting any kind of travel record. I just want to know if the record is at least retained.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
I have decided to address each question separately.
In relation to the first part of your request, the MPS confirms that it is responsible for the Prime Minister’s car travel.
With regards to your second query where you seek an explanation for maintaining a permanent record or not of the PM’s car travel, please be advised that information is not held in respect of this part of your request. I would like to take this opportunity to provide some context regarding the MPS’s response.
As you may be aware a Freedom of Information Act request relates to any recorded information held by a public authority. Therefore, whilst the MPS is responsible for the PM’s car travel, information is only recorded pertaining to a vehicle’s mileage in the relevant log book. This is to ensure compliancy with the MPS Driver Policy and maintenance schedules. The retention and disposal policy for these records is 7 years.
