Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.23.033103
I note you seek access to the following information:
• The number of fines you made for motorists with worn tires
• The number of fines made for motorists using a mobile phone
• Time period: Both over the past 12 months (1 October 2022 - 30 September 2023)
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
Between October 2022 and September 2023, 286 TORs (Traffic Offence Reports) were registered as paid in relation to offences for motorists driving vehicles with worn tyres.
During this same period, 3143 TOR’s were registered as paid in relation to motorists for using a handheld mobile phone / device while driving a motor vehicle on a road.
Please note, these figures relate to TOR’s only, and not any other disposal methods for these offences.
A number of the TORs may have been dealt with via the judicial (courts) system and therefore the MPS are unaware of the court outcomes as to whether a fine was issued. You would need to contact HMCTS (Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service) to establish.
