Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
(i) - How many venues in total have signed up to the Ask for Angela campaign? (ii) - How many venues have received Welfare And Vulnerability Engagement (WAVE) training in 2021-2022?
Ask for Angela is a campaign and safety initiative that allows people who feel unsafe, vulnerable or threatened to discreetly seek help by approaching venue staff and asking them for ‘Angela’. This initiative forms part of the Welfare and Engagement training (WAVE) programme delivered by the MPS. The MPS only started holding records from 2022. From Jan to March 2022, 453 venues received WAVE training by the MPS.
Note – These are MPS figures only. A number of other organisations across London deliver ‘WAVE’ and ‘Ask for Angela’. These include organisations such as the Safer Business Network (SBN) who the MPS have worked & developed training with in the past. The MPS do not hold training figures for other organisations who deliver these programmes.

(iii) - How many Met officers are currently licensed to give Welfare And Vulnerability Engagement (WAVE) training?
In order to deliver WAVE training, an MPS officer has to complete a bespoke training session. There are currently 72 officers trained.
(iv) - Have those officers who are licensed (see iii) have had background checks?
There is no specific background check to conduct the WAVE training. Otherwise all police officers must be vetted appropriately as part of their standard job. All roles in the met require the holder to have RV/CTC (Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorist Check) clearance.
