I note you seek access to the following information:
A list of the questions asked in custody to a detainee during their initial processing at an MPS custody suite, including all risk assessment and rights related questions.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
The first question asked to a detainee is following the officer giving the reason for arrest and offence, the detainee is asked if they understand why they have been arrested. If the detainee appears to struggle due to language barriers, they will be offered the services of an interpreter via telephone.
The detainee is then asked their personal details where they are asked for their personal details, this would include their First name, Surname, Date of birth, Place of Birth, Height, Address, Self-Defined Ethnicity, Nationality, Occupation, Self-Defined Gender and if applicable School attending and Immigration status.
Following this the detainee is then asked 3 questions which form their Rights and Entitlements, they are as follows:
• Would you like a solicitor?
• Would you like anyone informed that you have been arrested?
• Would you like a copy of the codes of practice?
Further to this, if the detainee is a foreign national, they are asked the following:
• Would you like your embassy to be informed of your arrest?
The detainee is then asked several questions regarding their health and wellbeing, the questions are as follows:
• Have you had a head injury or been knocked unconscious in the last two days?
• Do you have any other current injuries?
• Are you due to see a doctor?
• Do you have diabetes?
• Do you have epilepsy or fits?
• Do you have heart problems?
• Do you have asthma or breathing problems?
• Are you prescribed any medication?
• Do you have any known allergies to medications or foods?
• Have you used any drugs or substances in the last 12 hours?
• Do you think you will start withdrawing from drugs whilst here?
• Do you wish to see or be contacted by an Independent Drug/Alcohol Referral Scheme Worker?
• When did you last drink any alcohol?
• Have you ever had a fit or seizure because of alcohol or because you stopped drinking?
• Do you need to have a drink every day?
• Do you have any mental health problems?
• Have you tried to commit suicide or harm yourself in the past?
• Do you have any thoughts to commit suicide or harm yourself now?
• Have you ever served in the UK military?
• Do you want to see the Doctor or Nurse for other reason?
• Do you have any dietary or religious needs?
