As part of our continued innovation to ensure that the Met is able to keep Londoners safe and respond to potential emerging threats the Met undertakes a range of proof of concepts with industry, academia and subject matter experts. One of these proof of concepts (PoC) undertaken in 2022 involved looking at paintwork options for the specialist vehicles used by our firearms teams.
A specialist company was contacted to provide the wraps and specialist vehicle camouflage was investigated and the Met undertook laboratory and field trials to assess the potential benefit to our capabilities. Two wraps were purchased costing £4658, the marking for these wrap were different shades of grey.
Following an assessment a decision was taken that the capability was not needed at this time. This decision carefully considered the impact that such a wrap would have on the trust and confidence of London’s communities in the Met.
