CAVEATS
The following caveats apply to the data provided in answer to your request for information:
• The data provided relates to Employment Tribunal claims only.
• The Employment Tribunal Client Unit (ETCU) of the Directorate of Professional Standards collates data according to complete financial years. As such, data covering the financial years 2018 - 2023 has been provided.
• Employment Tribunal claims received by the MPS may be brought against the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, and / or individual named Respondents. All such claims are included in the statistics provided.
• The figures include multiple claims (counted separately) from the same Claimant.

The information provided above shows the number of Employment Tribunal claims brought against the MPS by Police Officers, members of the Metropolitan Special Constabulary, Police Staff, Contractors and members of the public for race and disability discrimination only. The figures show all such claims received during the stated financial years.
The figures above indicate claims which have an allegation of (i) race discrimination, (ii) disability discrimination and (ii) where both race and disability are cited. However there may be other allegations cited within each claim under other protected characteristics which have not been included:

We are unable to provide settlement figures for individual characteristics, as an individual can raise multiple allegations within the same claim. Figures recorded by the ETCU are based on the claim as a whole rather than the individual characteristics. The requested information cannot accordingly be provided to you in the format requested, as it is not held in this format by the MPS.

The Race and Disability settlement figures for financial years 2018/19 and 2020/21 have not been provided, as the settlement amounts for each of these financial years relate to one claimant where the terms of the settlement are covered by the terms of a COT3. A COT3 is a form used to record the terms of a settlement on an Employment Tribunal Claim (or potential claim) negotiated with the assistance of an ACAS Conciliation Officer. The COT3 forms for financial years 2018/19 and 2020/21 contain confidentiality clauses. Breakdowns by financial year for the period 2018/19 to 2021/22 have not been provided for this reason.
