Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.23.030087
I note you seek access to the following information:
I am currently carrying out research into career patterns of older MPS officers and it would be helpful, subject to the information being available, if you were able to provide me with the following information;
1) Can you provide a breakdown of officers by rank and gender currently serving in the MPS over the age of 50?
If you are able it would be ideal to receive that information by individual age by year e.g. “there are 243 male sergeants and 79 female sergeants aged 53” but if not then broken down by age bands say 50-54,55-59, 60-64 and (any) 65+ ?
2) In relation to the promotion process from constable to sergeant for 2022 can you a) provide a breakdown of total applicants and successful applicants by gender. Are you also able to provide
b) a breakdown by age of the total/successful applicants and length of service by gender. And
c) the age range of total and successful applicants from the youngest to the oldest ?
3) In relation to ‘normal’ retirement of officers for 2022 can you provide a breakdown of age by gender and rank. As I requested in Q1 if you are able to provide that data by individual year of age that would be most helpful but if not then the age bands of 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 and (any) 65+ will assist me?
4) In relation to the MPS Marine unit are you able to provide data on the number of officers currently serving in the unit broken down by rank and gender ?
If you are able can you say how many of those officers are aged 55 and over ?
I appreciate because of the size of the unit there may be a question of potential disclosure but any data, even were it to be spread over a number of years, to avoid the small sample size, would be appreciated.
Decision
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.

Q2b - a breakdown by age of the total/successful applicants and length of service by gender.
We do not record length of service within the system, so we are unable to provide this information.
Q2c - the age range of total and successful applicants from the youngest to the oldest ?
We do not record age, but we do record age ranges, so can provide the following information:
