CONTEXT
Knife crime has a devastating impact on individuals, their families and the wider community. Our officers are working hard to ensure that the streets of London are safe.
This includes bespoke operations targeting knife crime and conducting surge activity to ensure that Londoners are kept safe. We are also continuing engagement work with our communities and partners in order to help divert young people away from knife crime.
Our officers use wide-ranging tactics these include:
• Working across teams to locate outstanding offenders for violence
• High visibility open space patrols in parks and in areas of high footfall
• A number of diversionary and engagement programmes led by Met Officers over
the summer period, to help divert young people away from violence and potential criminal activity. These targeted programmes include mentoring programmes, outreach services and parent and carer support.
Reducing knife crime requires a multi-agency response across all communities, the public, and the private and charity sectors, in order to deliver lasting long-term change. Information from the public about knife crime is also critical to reducing knife crime, and we would urge anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact Crimestoppers anonymously. The information provided could save someone’s life.
