The Met Intelligence Command (MO2) sits within Met Operations, seeking to support and inform frontline policing and Specialist Operations.
Met Intelligence consists of multiple units employing about 1,500 police staff and officers. Intelligence holds the key to preventing and solving crimes, disrupting offenders and criminal networks, and keeping communities safe from harm. By joining Met Intelligence you will be strengthening the ability of the Met to meet these objectives.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology is one of many advanced systems that are helping the Met fight crime. To ensure it’s always in good working order, we rely on our technicians. We now need a supervisor to lead our experts and keep ANPR systems working as they should.
The Met Intelligence department has a range of skills covering the vast area of support this department provides to the Met. As an ANPR technical supervisor, you will supervise an engineering team to manage the design, build, deployment, and maintenance of ANPR systems and assets, to meet specific business requirements.
As supervisor, you’ll have a central role in the ANPR technical services team. You’ll organise our deployment engineers to resolve system issues and solve technical challenges. You’ll be thinking innovatively to get problems fixed and working with new technologies, all while managing team operations and liaising with key contacts. With an opportunity to deputise for the ANPR manager, you’ll hone your leadership skills within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
With an HND, HNC or equivalent in electrical or electronic engineering, you’ll understand the theory and practical application of ANPR technology. If you haven’t used it before, we’ll give you training. But you must bring knowledge of operating platforms including Windows and Linux, as well as IP-based systems and networking technologies such as firewalls, routers, and switches. Beyond this, you’ll need experience in a supervisory role. It’s important you support teams and strive to meet new challenges.
The core working hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. There is flexible working and some occasional overtime.
Please note that you’ll be part of an operational team, so you may be required to work outside normal office hours.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.
Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties.
For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.
Met Intelligence aims to create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for all staff. A working environment where any group or individual can be and feel respected, supported, and valued to fully participate and contribute to the Metropolitan Police mission of 'more trust, less crime, higher standards'.
Inclusion, diversity, and equality is central to our approach in making Met Intelligence more representative of the communities we serve. We view all forms of diversity as fundamental to our success. Effective local policing relies upon strong intelligence support from our public and across all our communities, applications from across all communities are therefore essential and encouraged.
Met Intelligence ANPR Unit is committed to creating an inclusive working environment, we believe everyone should be able to bring their true self to work, so we are working to enhance a culture where there is a strong sense of belonging. A supportive environment where everyone experiences respect, encouragement, and appreciation to reach their full potential.
Met intelligence is committed to ensuring that disabled people and those with neurodiversity or long-term health conditions have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations. We welcome and encourage applications from candidates who are seeking flexible working arrangements, including part time working or job share. Although this is mainly an office-based role, we are able to accommodate flexible and agile working in line with core resilience needs. In the first instance, please us to discuss how such arrangements could be accommodated. If you require any adjustments to be made to support, you with any stage of the recruitment process please discuss these with us so that relevant support can be arranged.
We want to give a really strong message to colleagues that part-time working is not a barrier. If you have any questions about job share opportunities, please speak to us.
