The implementation of the reform to public sector pensions has been ruled unfair in court, on the grounds of age discrimination.
As a result of this court ruling, all eligible retired officers must be offered a choice of new pension benefits for any service they gave between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2022.
This is known as the ‘McCloud Remedy’.
You will be eligible if you were:
Eligible retired officers will be contacted in writing or by email from SSCL. SSCL is the organisation who administers our officer pension scheme. You will be sent a statement called a 'remediable service statement' (rss) between mid-January and the end of March 2025. This statement will help you understand the choice you can make.
Once you have received your rss, you will have 12 months to confirm your choice.
The Met's pension team is running monthly drop-in sessions on Microsoft Teams. These will explain the McCloud Remedy to you including your choices and the support available.
For details, please email SSCL's McCloud Remedy team.
You can email the SSCL's McCloud Remedy team with any other questions.
Alternatively, you can phone 020 7161 2222, using options 1, 4 and 3, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
As a result of the McCloud Remedy, you may be able to claim compensation. For example, you may be able to reclaim any money spent on financial advice to help you understand the pension choice available to you.
This must be as a direct result of the remedy and after you have received your remedy figures in the remediable service statement (rss).

A contingent decision is a decision that would have been different had reformed pensions not been introduced as they were. The decision must directly relate to police pension scheme membership from 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2022.
For example, if you chose to opt out of the 2015 scheme when it was introduced, there is now an opportunity to ask to opt back in.
