Officers concerned: PC Dean Murphy, former PC Rebecca King, former PC Kevin Odongo
Dates of hearing: 31 January 2025
The three subject officers faced allegations that they were part of a WhatsApp group whereby they sent and received inappropriate and/or offensive messages.
It was further alleged that all three subject officers failed to correctly challenge/report inappropriate and/or offensive messages sent by other group members.
In behaving in the way outlined above it was alleged that the three subject officers had breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Discreditable Conduct, Authority, Respect and Courtesy, and Challenging and Reporting Improper Conduct.
The Chair found both allegations proven at a level of Gross Misconduct in respect of PC Murphy, former PC King and former PC Odongo.
PC Murphy was dismissed without notice.
Former PC King and former PC Odongo would have been dismissed without notice had they still been serving.
