Officer concerned: Former PC Adam McNicholas
Dates of hearing: 14 February 2025
On the 26 September 2024 authority was granted by Detective Superintendent Neil Smithson to conduct a 'with cause drugs test' (WCDT) on former PC McNicholas. On Monday 14 October 2024 former PC McNicholas provided a sample of urine which after testing has shown a positive reading for a controlled drug namely cocaine.
The former officer was not present at proceedings but was represented by his Federation representative.
The Panel led by Chair Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, found the allegation proven and that former PC McNicholas had breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Discreditable Conduct and Fitness for Duty and that these breaches amounted to Gross Misconduct.
Gross misconduct found proven. Former PC McNicholas would have been dismissed without notice and will now be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing.
