On 5 September 2024 DC Michael Lai answered allegations that his conduct amounted to breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of:
It was alleged that on 19 April 2019 whilst off-duty, DC Lai attempted to steal a pair of shoes.
It was also alleged that DC Lai provided false information to the police officer who attended the scene by describing himself as an ‘office worker’ when he was in fact a police officer.
It was also alleged that DC Lai failed to disclose to his employer the fact that the theft had been the subject of a community resolution.
The panel, chaired by Maurice Cohen (LQC), considered all of the evidence and found the following:
DC Lai was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in relation to ‘Honesty & Integrity’, ‘Orders & Instructions’ and ‘Discreditable Conduct’ at the level of Gross Misconduct.
DC Lai was dismissed without notice
