In the circumstances, the Appropriate Authority contends that DC Poonsawat’s actions breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour as set out in the Regulation 5 and Schedule 2 of the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 namely:
It is alleged that on 15 December 2022 during an off-duty Christmas party, DC Jose Poonsawat sexually assaulted a female colleague. In June 2024, the CPS authorised a single charge of sexual assault by touching, Contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
On 12 July 2024 at 10am, DC Jose Poonsawat attended Croydon Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to Sexual Assault by Touching, and was subsequently convicted of this offence.
The Chair, Assistant Commissioner Pippa Mills, considered all of the evidence and found the following:
DC Poonsawat was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in relation to Discreditable Conduct at the level of Gross Misconduct.
He was dismissed without notice.
