Notice of accelerated misconduct hearing to be held in public

DS Stuart McKechnie, based at North West Command Unit will answer allegations that his conduct amounts to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of:

1)    Discreditable Conduct

2)    Fitness for Duty

On 15 March 2021 at Luton Magistrates’ Court, DS McKechnie was convicted on his guilty plea of having driven a motor vehicle after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath exceeded the prescribed limit. The reading being 54 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

DS McKechnie was disqualified from driving for 14 months. He was also fined £620 and ordered to pay Crown Prosecution Service costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £62.

The conviction relates to an offence committed whilst on duty.

DS McKechnie is due to retire from the Metropolitan Police Service, his last day of service will be 20 September 2021.

The matters set out above (individually and / or collectively) if proven, are said to amount to gross misconduct, in that they are so serious as to justify dismissal.

The hearing will start on Wednesday 22 September 2021 at 4.00pm and is listed for one day.
