In March 2018, MOPAC and TfL agreed a Memorandum of Understanding (*MoU) for the MPS to work towards achieving compliance with ULEZ standards up to 25th August 2023 and to create a zero emission fleet with no specific target date. A sunset period was granted until 25th October 2023 for:
• Met specialised and response vehicles stationed outside the central London ULEZ area, which are required to enter for operational reasons;
• Protection vehicles stationed within the zone that have a national remit and spend a large proportion of time outside the zone.
This MoU has enabled the MPS Fleet replacement programme to plan and budget without the need to accelerate replacements or increase costs to achieve ULEZ compliance.
