Please note: Ensure the notes page is read in conjunction with the data.
As the request focuses on at least one incident taking place on a social media platform, I have captured those offences where Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and/or WhatsApp were recorded in the context of the offence.
The absence of Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and/or WhatsApp does not mean that social media was not mentioned in the CRIS, rather this only means the CRIS did not explicitly mention the stated social media platforms in the context of the offence.
Please see below:
A count of Suspects with a Suspect Elimination History Reason of First Instance of Harassment, across the MPS. With the Feature Code for Online/internet enabled crime Recorded Date between 1st January 2019 and 31st December 2021. In some instances there were multiple Social Media Platforms involved.
Facebook - 22
WhatsApp - 11
Instagram - 9
Twitter - 1
Snapchat - 1
No specific platform mentioned - 25
Please also note:
The ‘online element’ is likely highly under-reported because flags/feature codes may not be accurate and used in every instance. However, there would be a huge cost/time implication (it would take beyond 18hours) to manually search this.
